Business Travelers: Do you recommend Jeffrey’s Grocery for
Usually these reviews are done in order but when I have a really good experience I want to get it out so this one got bumped to the top of the list. Still many New York and Philly reviews just waiting to get published, stay tuned.
Jeffrey’s Grocery opened during my three year hiatus from New York. I’ve walked by several times and the place looked so inviting I had to go back.
The Jeffrey’s Grocery Experience: Tuesday, August 7, 2012 about 8:30 P.M. I walk in and am greeted by the host. Looking at the two bars, I see no seats. The host says they are only seating dinner patrons at the bar and I say perfect, I am here for dinner at the bar. Not often I experience this, very interesting and keeps the bar area clear. I still see no seats but the host carefully and very nicely squeezes me in. Great guy, getting pulled in many directions by staff and by the many customers coming in the door. No televisions, no problem.
I have a drink and order the lobster and spaghetti, bartender says it is their most popular dish and it was terrific, took some home for later. $38, 1 ½ lb. de-shelled lobster and worth it, delicious. Check out the NY Chow Report Video above.
One bar and a chef’s counter. Bar is small and faces the wall, 3 seats on short end and 6 on longer end. I sit in the third seat from the wall on the short end and can see the entire restaurant, chef’s bar and kitchen. I can also see the street through the large windows on the Waverly Place side with my back to Christopher Street. There are a few high tops around the bar where you can just come and have a drink. Nice chatty patrons, nice bartender, warm evening with the door open and open kitchen. Chef’s counter was larger with about 4 seats on the short side and 8 seats on longer end.
Next visit is for the skirt steak which I was told was delish. Menu leans toward seafood and oysters but a nice selection of meat. Full name is Jeffrey’s Grocery Restaurant & Oyster Bar.
Business Travelers: Lots of business people and several financial conversations happening along with some neighborhood people. Tight with a higher noise level, perfect for business travelers looking for a fun night out and a great meal or a place to take clients. Nice place to watch the West Village go by, especially for those visiting NYC. Women traveling on business will feel welcome and comfortable in Jeffrey’s and the surrounding neighborhood.
